Pausing to think while reading

While learning, I often get lost in blindly reading the book, blindly watching the lecture, or blindly consuming any content. I ask myself, “What did I just read?” or “What did I just watch the past 20 minutes?”. I’m lost.

My mind drifts away, I’m not fully focused, and then it happens. I start blindly consuming content — be it a book, podcast or online lecture. Nothing sticks. I forget everything immediately.

To break this cycle, I’m trying to use tiny breaks during reading or learning. Pausing to think. Thinking about what I just read or listened to. The pause doesn’t have to be long — maybe a few seconds.

The pause helps to think and catch oneself if one’s attention unconsciously drifts away.
